Prevodilački projekat Biblijskog Društva

Biblijsko društvo u Federaciji Bosne i Hercegovine ima čast da radi na novom prijevodu Biblije. Naša je želja da ljudima u Bosni i Hercegovini damo Božiju Riječ na jeziku i u formatu koji je tačan u odnosu na originalne tekstove na hebrejskom, aramejskom i grčkom jeziku, i koji je razumljiv svakodnevni jezik ljudi u Bosni i Hercegovini. Velika većina ljudi u Bosni i Hercegovini nemaju lični odnos s Gospodom Isusom Kristom i mi želimo da im učinimo dostupnom Božiju Riječ koja će biti objašnjena na način koji će oni lako razumjeti. Većina vjernika u Bosni i Hercegovini su prilično mladi u vjeri i želimo da za njih obezbijedimo dobre bilješke za proučavanje koje će im pomoći da razumiju Sveto pismo. Postoji mali broj knjiga za proučavanje Biblije na njihovom jeziku, a one koje se mogu nabaviti su obično prilično skupe te stoga želimo za njih obezbijediti bilješke za proučavanje u jednostavnom formatu dok čitaju Biblju.

Ovaj prijevod biće potpuno novi prijevod Biblije, a biće korišteni najbolji tekstovi na hebrejskom, aramejskom i grčkom jeziku koji su dostupni, kao i razni materijali za egzegezu i prevođenje. Vidi bibliografiju na kraju.

Ovo će biti višegodišnji projekat koji je počeo 2005. godine i trajaće narednih 15-20 godina. Kako prijevod bude dostupan, mi ćemo ga objaviti na internetu kako bi bio dostupan za čitatelje ovdje. Naša je želja da imaju interakciju s tekstom u njegovoj ranoj fazi i jave nam se sa povratnom informacijom kako bismo se pobrinuli da prijevod bude najboljeg kvaliteta.

Prevodilački pristup

Teorija koja se primjenjuje pri prevođenju obično se naziva dinamičkom ekvivalencijom. Tekst će biti preveden na jezik lak za čitanje tako da će ga dobro razumjeti prosječan čitatelj u Bosni i Hercegovini. Postojaće fusnote u kojima će biti objašnjeni kulturološki i lingvistički koncepti koji bi mogli biti lako pogrešno shvaćeni. U usporedbi sa modernim prijevodima na engleski jezik, ovaj prijevod ima za cilj da ide u pravcu koji je sličan NET Bibliji koja, kada je u pitanju dinamička ekvivalencija, spada negdje između New International Version i Today’s English Version. 2 Braćo moja, kada se suočite sa bilo kakvim kušnjama, ne smatrajte to ničim drugim do čistom radošću, 3 jer znate da kušanje vaše vjere stvara postojanost. 4 A postojanost mora uroditi punim učinkom, tako da budete zreli i potpuni, i da vam, usljed toga, ništa ne nedostaje. 5 Ali, ako ikome od vas nedostaje mudrosti^[3], taj bi trebao tražiti od Boga, koji svakome daje bez oklijevanja i koji nam ne zamjera što tražimo, i tome će Bog dati. 6 Ali on mora tražiti s vjerom, ne sumnjajući, jer onaj koji sumnja je nestalan poput morskog talasa, kojeg vjetar baca i otpuhuje tamo-amo. 7 Takva osoba ne bi trebala očekivati da bilo šta primi od Gospoda, 8 jer je neodlučna, nepostojana u svemu što čini.

Principi prevođenja

Slijedit će se ovi principi prevođenja:

1. Tekst Starog zavjeta – Osnovni tekst biće BHS (Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia) koja daje standardni mazoretski tekst. Urednici će ponekad slijediti druge stare verzije, Septuagintu ili Svitke iz Mrtvog mora kako bi obezbijedili osnovni tekst.

2. Tekst Novog zavjeta – Ovaj će se tekst bazirati na Novum Testamentum Graece Nestle-Aland 27. izdanje. Tekstualne odluke će donositi urednici kako bi potvrdili najbolji prijevod.

3. Odluke o tumačenju donosiće prevodioci i urednici s ciljem da odjeljak bude razumljiv svakom čitatelju u Bosni i Hercegovini. Standardni kritički komentari biće korišteni radi egzegetskih pitanja.

4. Standardna jezička pomagala i najnoviji sofvter biće korišteni radi alternativa u prijevodu.

5. Nijedan prijevod ne može savršeno prevesti sadržaj originalnog jezika, iako će se uložiti svaki napor kako bi se što tačnije prenijelo značenje originalnog teksta. Iako ne tražimo potpunu formalnu ekvivalenciju glede teorije prevođenja, mi pokušavamo pomoću dinamičke ili funkcionalne ekvivalencije izraziti originalne jezike najprirodnijim ekvivalentom na jeziku ljudi u Bosni i Hercegovini, kada su u pitanju i stil i značenje.

6. Jezik će izbjegavati nepotrebne kolokvijalizme kako ne bi prebrzo zastario.

7. Prijevod će biti urađen na jeziku prosječnog čovjeka u Bosni i Hercegovini sa prosječnim nivoom obrazovanja. Kršćanski „žargon“ će se izbjegavati kako bi tekst bio razumljiv ne-kršćanima.

8. Izbjegavat ćemo arhaičnu terminologiju.

9. Komplikovane rečenice i sintaksične konstrukcije ćemo pojednostaviti gdje god je to moguće.

10. Stilske figure i idiomi će biti objašnjeni na način koji će biti razumljiv prosječnom čitatelju uz bukvalniji prijevod koji će se nalaziti u fusnotama. Navodnici koji, naravno, ne postoje u originalnim hebrejskim, aramejskim i grčkim manuskriptima biće korišteni da bi odgovarali normalnoj upotrebi.

11. Pasivne glagolske konstrukcije koje nisu prirodne, ili ih se lako pogrešno razumije, u jeziku naroda Bosne i Hercegovine biće pretvorene u aktivne glagole, iako će fusnote često ukazivati na bukvalan prijevod kada je to potrebno radi tačnosti.

12. U bilješkama za proučavanje biće ukazano na pozadinske informacije, istorijske detalje i kulturološke razlike.

Translation Project

The Bible Society in the Federation of Bosnia & Hercegovina is honored to be working on a new translation of the Bible. Our desire is to give the people of Bosnia & Hercegovina the Word of God in a language and format that is both accurate to the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts, and understandable in the daily language of the people of Bosnian & Hercegovina. The vast majority of people in Bosnia & Hercegovina do not have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and we want to make available to them the Word of God, explained in a way that they can easily understand. Most of the believers in Bosnia & Hercegovina are also quite young in the faith and we want to provide for them good study notes to help them understand the Scriptures. There are few biblical study references materials in their language and those that are available are often quite expensive, so we want to provide study notes for them in an easy format as they read the Bible.

This translation will be a completely new translation of the Bible, using the best available Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts and resources for exegesis and translation. See the bibliography below.

This will be a multi-year project beginning in 2005, and lasting 15-20 years. As the translation becomes available we will post it on the Internet to make it available for readers on this site. We desire that they interact with the text in early draft form and give feedback to us so we can make sure that the translation is of the highest quality.

Translation approach

The theory employed in the translation is what is commonly called dynamic equivalence. The text will be in an easy-to-read language so that it communicates well to the average reader in Bosnia & Hercegovina. Footnotes will be supplied to explain cultural and linguistic concepts which could be easily misunderstood. Compared to modern English translations, this translation will seek to steer a course similar to the NET Bible which, regarding dynamic equivalence falls somewhere between the New International Version, and Today’s English Version. A sample of the text is given below:

Jacob sends greetings

1 1 From Jacob, God’s and the Lord Jesus Christ’s slave, to the twelve tribes [of Jacob]^[1] scattered among the nations^[2]. Rejoice!

Be joyful in trials and pray for wisdom

2 Consider it as nothing but joy, my brothers, when you meet all sorts of trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith creates endurance. 4 And endurance must yield its full effect, so that you will be mature and complete, [and as a result] lack nothing. 5 But if anyone of you lacks wisdom, he should ask from God, who gives to everyone without hesitation and who does not rebuke us for asking, and God will give it. 6 But he must ask with faith, not doubting, because the one who doubts is as unstable as a wave of the sea, which the wind tosses and blows back and forth. 7 That kind of person should not expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 [since he is] an indecisive person, unstable in everything he does.

Principles of translation

The following principles of translation will be followed:

1. Text of the Old Testament – The base text will be BHS (Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia), which gives the standard Masoretic text. Editors will at times follow other ancient versions, the Septuagint or the Dead Sea Scrolls, seeking to provide the best text.

2. Text of the New Testament – The Text will be based on Novum Testamentum Graece Nestle-Aland 27^th Edition. Textual decisions will be made by the editors to confirm the best reading.

3. Interpretative decisions will be made by the translators and editors, with the goal of making the passage understandable to the average reader in Bosnia and Hercegovina. Standard critical commentaries will be consulted for exegetical questions.

4. Standard lexical tools and up-to-date software will be consultated for translation alternatives.

5. No translation can ever be perfect in rendering the original languages, though every effort will be made to accurately convey the meaning of the original text. While not seeking complete formal equivalence regarding translation theory, we are attempting dynamic or functional equivalence to render the original languages with the most natural equivalent in the language of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in both style and meaning.

6. The language will avoid unnecessary colloquialisms so as not to be outdated too rapidly.

7. The translation will be in the language of the average adult in Bosnia & Herzegovina with an average educational level. Christian ‘jargon’ will be avoided so that the text will be understandable to non-Christians.

8. We will avoid archaic terminology.

9. Complicated sentences and syntactical constructions will be simplified wherever possible.

10. Figures of speech and idioms will be explained in a way understandable to the average reader with more literal renderings being placed in the footnotes. Quotation marks which, of course, do not exist in the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek manuscripts, will be used to conform to normal usage.

11. Passive verbal constructions which are unnatural, or easily misunderstood, in the language of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be converted to active verbs, although footnotes will often point out the literal rendering when necessary for accuracy.

12. Background information, historical details, and cultural differences will be pointed out in study notes.
